About 1h15–1h30 west along the Coral Highway to Casa de Campo, Bayahibe and the gateway to Saona Island.
Check prices & book →La Romana and Bayahibe lie about 95–110 km west of Punta Cana airport, a drive of roughly 1 hour 15 to 1 hour 30 minutes on the Autovía del Coral — the modern toll highway that hugs the southern coast. Bayahibe village sits a few minutes nearer than La Romana town and Casa de Campo.
It's an easy, fast highway run, but long enough that a comfortable private car beats a shared shuttle. With a pre-booked transfer the highway toll is built into your fixed price, so there's nothing to hand over to the driver along the way.
Distance: ~95–110 km | Journey time: ~1h 15–1h 30 | Private from: $95 total | Toll included | Airport: Punta Cana (PUJ)
La Romana is best known for Casa de Campo, one of the Caribbean's most storied luxury resorts — championship golf (the "Teeth of the Dog"), a private marina, and the hilltop artists' village of Altos de Chavón.
Bayahibe, just along the coast, is a laid-back former fishing village that doubles as the launch point for boat trips to Saona Island and Catalina Island in the Parque Nacional del Este. Its resorts include Hilton La Romana (formerly Dreams La Romana), Viva Dominicus Palace and Viva Dominicus Beach.
They're close together but not the same drop-off. Specify whether you're heading to Casa de Campo, a Bayahibe resort, or somewhere in La Romana town, and give the exact property name — the access points differ.
La Romana International Airport (LRM) is closer to these resorts, and some travellers fly in there directly. But many arrive at Punta Cana (PUJ) — it has far more international flights — and transfer across. If that's you, this is your route. (Flying into Santo Domingo's Las Américas airport, SDQ, is another option, at a similar distance from the west.)
At over an hour each way, a shared shuttle that stops at multiple resorts can add a long tail to your journey. A private transfer leaves when you land, takes the toll highway directly, and drops you at your resort — with the toll already covered. For couples heading to Casa de Campo or families bound for a Bayahibe all-inclusive, it's the simplest, most comfortable way across.
1–3 passengers, standard luggage. Comfortable for the highway run west.
1–4 passengers. Extra room for golf clubs and bigger suitcases.
5–8 passengers. The comfortable, better-value pick for groups and families.
Premium vehicle to match a Casa de Campo stay.
After immigration and baggage at PUJ's open-air terminal, walk out into arrivals and find your driver holding a sign with your name. Don't engage with anyone offering rides as you exit — your booked driver will be waiting. If you can't find them, call the number on your confirmation first before the longer drive west.
